The co-founder of Tesla, Elon Musk, made a pledge on Twitter that he plans to sell "almost all physical possessions" and "own no house" on May 1. It seems that he really meant what he said because he put 7 homes on Zillow as "for sale by owner." What do his luxurious houses look like? How much can they sell? Well, read on and have a look at them yourself!
1. The First Piece In Bel Air
The Tesla CEO actually started his journey of gaining properties by renting this colonial-style house in 2010 with his five sons. After 2 years, he bought it as the first piece in Bel Air for $17 million. It's now worth about $22.3 million, and he listed it for $30 million 2 days after his tweet.
2. A Unique-Style Kitchen
The 20,248 square-foot place is divided into different wings with 7 bedrooms and a 2-story library. It also features such a pretty kitchen with a unique brick ceiling.
3. The Backyard
There is a pool, a tennis court, and an exclusive view of Bel-Air Country Club. The house also has its own gym and a wine cellar.
4. A Ranch-Style House
On the same street, Musk also bought 2 more houses in 2013, and one of them is a ranch-style house that cost him $6.75 million. It covers 2,756 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. He listed the property for $9.5 million on the market.
5. The Backyard Of The Ranch-Style House
The place was owned by actor Gene Wilder for more than 30 years until 2007. And the ranch-style house also overlooks the Bel-Air Country Club.
6. A Private School For His Kids
This house was used for Musk's kids as a private school. He once described the place in the Vogue interview in 2015 as "like a little schoolhouse on the prairie, except in Bel Air on a golf course."
7. Two More Purchases
Musk also bought 2 more mansions on a nearby street in Bel Air. One is a ranch house that he bought for $20 million in 2015, and the other one is an unfinished mansion that cost him $24.25 million the next year.
8. Collectively Listed House Group
In 2018, Musk bought another mansion next door to the last two. It's a two-story colonial-style home built with a white brick facade. Estimated to be worth $4.2 million, Musk put it with the other three as a group of homes and listed them for a collective $62.5 million on May 13.
9. A Home Near Office
Although Musk once said that he sleeps on the floor or a couch of a conference room in Tesla's headquarters during busy times, he actually owns another home around the area. It's the 100-year-old, 16,000-square-foot mansion with Mediterranean style in the ritzy Bay area suburb of Hillsborough. With 10 bedrooms, bay views, hiking trails, and a ballroom, it cost Musk $23.4 million in 2017 and got listed for $35M.
10. A House Already Sold
Before this "own no house" pledge began, Musk already sold one of his properties. He previously owned a "boomerang-shaped house" in Brentwood, CA, with his ex-wife Talulah Riley. It cost the former couple about $3.7 million in 2014.
11. A Look Around His Previous Home
The property is very properly secured with privacy hedges, which was one of the most important things to consider for Musk when buying houses.
12. A Bright Bedroom
His former home also has a super bright bedroom, which provides a cozy and relaxing vibe for them to rest well after a long busy day.
13. A Lovely Living Area
The house also has floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area, which makes the place look bigger and brighter than it really is. He already sold this lovely home for $4 million last year, and hopefully, he can achieve his "own no house" goal in no time!
